Baltic Coast – Warnemünde and Surroundings

Half-day tours (can start in the morning or after lunch; approx. 5-6 hours):

Option 1:
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel by minivan. Transfer to Wismar (approx. 80 km distance from Warnemünde) is approximately one hour. Wismar is a medieval town (a UNESCO World Heritage site) with many beautifully restored buildings. Stroll across the market square, lined with gabled houses of all eras and the Water Art Cistern, to St. Georges (the biggest church reconstruction project in Northern Germany) and the tower of St. Mary's ( a symbol for the destruction of WW 2) down to the old harbor and along the charming canal system. Wismar is a hidden gem. You may even see a rebuilt hanseatic cog ship down in the port.

On your return back to Rostock, you will stop in Bad Doberan. The landmark of Bad Doberan is the gothic Minster - the church of the former cistercian abbey Doberan. This monumental brick construction has one of most complete medieval interiors in Northern Europe. Some of the pieces (altars, wood carvings, figurines) date from the late 13th century. The charming small town of Bad Doberan was from the 18th century the summer residence of the ducal family and was thus designed as a complete piece of art in the style of classicism. After the tour of the Abbey you will return to your hotel.

Group size: 5 – 14
Cost per person: Euro 150

Option 2:
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel by minivan. On this trip you will see Rostock and Schwerin (approx. 100 km distance from Rostock-Warnemünde). The Hanseatic City of Rostock looks back on almost 800 years of history at the banks of the river Warnow. From the New Market with the splendid Town Hall to the University Square with the Monastery to the Holy Cross it is just a short stroll along the main boulevard lined with gabled houses of all eras. Stop by St. Mary's with its famous astronomical clock and the impressive baroque organ and see the historic town wall.

Schwerin was the main residence of the Dukes of Mecklenburg. Today it is the smallest capital city of a federal state in Germany (Land Mecklenburg-Pommerania), but it makes up for it with its beauty and is definitely worth a visit. One of Schwerin’s major sights is its fairytale palace, nestled on the banks of Lake Schwerin. It was finished in 1857 and designed after the model of the French Loire palaces. A selection of rooms including the audience room, library and reception rooms can be visited as part of the federal museum. The castle today also houses the parliament of Mecklenburg. The beautiful palace gardens at the lake were host to the German national gardening exhibition in 2009. Take a walk and see beautiful buildings and old squares in the historic city centre and the magnificent cathedral (Dom) dating back to medieval times.
